In March 1947 , Mountbatten was appointed Viceroy of India and oversaw th e Partition of British India  into India and Pakistan.   The legislature representatives of the Indian National Congress , the Muslim League, and the Sikh community came to an agreement with Lord Mountbatten through  " T he Indian Independence Act of 1947 " This plan is known as the 3 June Plan or Mountbatten Plan.
