On 14 August 2020, the then president Dr Arif Alvi presented   Nishan-e-Pakistan  to Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani for his  noteworthy services and sacrifices for the oppressed people of Indian occupied Kashmir .
